Mr. Christopher Grace, Shakespeare Schools Festival director quoted Mr. Nic Connaughton, festival's regional director.
"Nic spoke warmly of your production of scenes and soliloquies performed in Hebrew with surtitles. He said your cast was outstanding, ' some really fine acting' and that it was a joy to watch. So thank you for participating and for contributing an international dimension to the Festival".
The Aleph High School of Arts theatre department is one of Israel's leading institutions for the instruction of the performing arts for the age group of 12-18. It was established in 1989 and since then has produced many actors, directors, stage managers, set and lighting designers who are active in the Israeli media. It is also the only high school in the country with a 6-year theatre program for young artists.
Our teachers are professionals in the various theatre fields: actors, directors and designers. We often collaborate with the other artistic departments of the school:Music (Classical & Jazz) Dance Cinema & Plastic Arts.
The Dybbuk 2011 directed by David Steinberg
We aim to introduce the magic of theatre to young aspiring artists in this field, to let them acquire basic performance skills, learn the complexity of the theatre mechanism and experience the making of a theatre production. Yet, we stress the importance of the history of art, the connection between science and the arts, and the relationship of the artist with society and politics.
The first year of junior high, Year 7, is open to all pupils interested in theatre. There are no auditions and any child can study in the introductory 1-year course. Transition to Year 8 depends on their performance in the first year.
